Heritage Walk in city

Chandigarh, Oct 7 (UNI) As part of the celebrations of Chandigarh Heritage Festival, a heritage walk was conducted here today.

Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Union Territory Administrator, General (Retd.) S F Rodrigues, who flagged off the walk from Open Hand Monument to War Memorial in Leisure Valley, himself joined in the walk.

People from different walks of life, including social activists, sports persons, senior citizens, environmentalists, youth, students and officers from government and private sector participated in the event which was sponsored by the State Bank of India.

Emphasising the need of making it a regular feature, General Rodrigues said that such occasions motivated children and youth in nation building activities and inculcated in them a sense of faith and confidence.

The Administrator shared his vision with architects and senior citizens, associated with upcoming of the "City Beautiful" and called for their active partnership to maintain and restore its grandeur.

This is not solely the responsibility of government agencies but, as concerned citizens, " we must actively join the endeavour and promote our culture and glorious traditions", he said. He expressed the hope that more public-private partnerships would be forthcoming to preserve and sustain the fast growing city.
