Nashik, Oct 7 (UNI) A team of the Maharashtra government's Department of Agriculture raided the Central Government's central warehouse here today and seized 8,000 sacks of fertilizer worth Rs 1.52 crore.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of the Crime Control department of Department of Agriculture, Maharashtra Government raided the warehouse this evening and seized 8,000 sacks of fertilizers.
Overall 19,000 sacks of fertilizers, belonging to Zuari Industries, Goa were stored in the warehouse. The old price was Rs 1,400 for a sack of 50 kg whereas the new price is Rs 1,900. The stock had some sacks with the old MRP as well as some with the new MRP.
The company was selling most of these sacks including those with the old price at Rs 1,900. Sell of fertilizers, an essential commodity, at more than the decided price, is a crime under Essential Commodities Act 1955. How many of the already sold 11,000 sacks were sold at a price more than the MRP, will be investigated soon. Work for registering a case was on till reports last came in.
