''The Wall' erected in KSCA in honour of Dravid

Bangalore, Oct 6 (UNI) A befitting tribute was paid to former India captain Rahul Dravid with master-blaster Sachin Tendulkar unveiling 'The Wall'-- a massive 27 feet by 15 feet structure erected at M Chinnaswamy Stadium here today.

It was an initiative taken up jointly by Skyline Group and the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA).

KSCA Secretary and former Indian test cricketer Brijesh Patel said 'The Wall' constructed using 10,000 blocks, was to celebrate Dravid's aggregate of over 10,000 runs in both Tests and ODIs. It would be an inspiration for the aspiring youngsters and aimed at encouraging the youth to take up cricket.

Dravid is a member of Exclusive Club of six-legendary cricketers in the world, including Sachin, Sunil Gavaskar, Steve Waugh, Allan Border and Brain Lara. Rahul deserved such a tribute, considering his artistic display, skill, technique and temperament, focus on the game and penchant for array of strokes and the inclination to learn in his own inimitable style.

Brijesh said 'The Wall' also has a clicking-timer, which would add every run scored by 'Mr dependable' in the years to come.

Replying to the honour, Dravid said ''it was a bit embarrassing when I was invited to the function. But, Brijesh felt that my presence will inspire and boost the morale of the young and upcoming cricketers.'' The highlight of 'The Wall' is a large 'metal statue' of Dravid playing his trademark cover-drive. There is a 'live' electronic unit that displays the soft-spoken player's current score in Test Cricket (10,246), even as he keeps the score-boards ticking.

Dravid is also looking forward to score heavily in the coming four-test series against Australia with the first test starting here on October nine.
