SC dismisses sedition case against Simranjit Singh Mann
New Delhi, Oct 6 (UNI) The Supreme Court has quashed a sedition case against Akali Dal (Mann) chief and former IPS officer Simranjit Singh Mann.
The Punjab government had registered a case of sedition against Mann for raising slogans eulogising the killers of former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh.
Mann was charged with raising slogans in favour of Dilawar Singh, one of the accused in the Beant Singh murder case.
A bench comprising Justices Altamas Kabir and Markandeya Katju in their judgement last week has said mere raising of slogans does not amount to sedition and therefore the case registered against Simranjit Singh Mann deserved to be quashed.
Congress leader Beant Singh and former Punjab DGP KPS Gill were instrumental in controlling terrorism in the state.
