Mumbai, Oct 6: On Monday, Oct 6 early morning Mumbai Police raided a rave party at a high profile pub '72 degress' in Juhu, Mumbai and detained 231 people for consumption of drugs. Eight drug dealers were also arrested. Police also seized 100 tablets of ecstasy drugs and other narcotics like heroine, LSD and cocaine.The official said that a filmmaker is one of the co-owners of the pub. Reports suggest that among the detained also include Bollywood star Shakti Kapoor's son and a couple of foreign nationals.
Those detained were later taken to a nearby hospital for blood and urine tests to confirm consumption of drugs. Reports suggest that 38 among the 231 detained are women. All those detained are in the age of 20-25 years. Those detained will be released after blood tests are conducted on them and further action will be taken against them once the results are out.
Police said that ecstasy is one of the easiest illegal drugs to obtain. It is a synthetic chemical that can be derived from an essential oil of the sassafras tree. Its effects are similar to those of hallucinogens.
Commonly referred to as 'acid', LSD is sold in the form of tablets and capsules. It is odourless and colourless. Ganja is also known as cannabis or marijuana. Ganja is mixed with tobacco and used.
In March 2008, another rave party was busted and around 271 partygoers were detained in Pune. A large quantity of drugs were seized from the party including marijuana and hashish. Those detained were remanded to 14 days of judicial custody and were later released.
