Lahore, Oct 6 (UNI) As the differences between the selectors and the duo of coach and captain over the selection of all-rounder Shahid Afridi and pacer Rao Iftikhar continues, the announcement of the Pakistan team to play in the four-nation T20 tournament in Canada has been delayed.
''The team announcement may be delayed from Monday to Tuesday to further see the performances of three players namely allrounder Shahid Afridi and pacemen Rao Iftikhar and Abdur Rauf, as the selectors want these three in the team while the captain Shoaib Malik and coach Geoff Lawson are against the selection of these three,'' said a source to local media.
Coach Geoff Lawson wants to select young players instead of Afridi whereas skipper Shoaib Malik is also not in favour of Afridi, who by his own standards has not performed recently.
However, Afridi has been doing well in the ongoing T20 domestic event and has led his Karachi Dolphins team to the semi-finals.
Pakistan will fly out on October 8 to play in the four-nation T20 tournament to be held in Toronto, Canada where Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe and hosts Canada are other teams.
