MDU men, MGU women win varsities cross country titles

Rohtak, Oct 6 (UNI) Hosts Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU), Rohtak and MG University, Kottayam won the men's and women's team titles, respectively, in the All India Inter-University Cross-Country Championship here today.

Deep Chandra Pal (CSJM University, Kanpur) won the best athlete prize in the men's category and Savita Dhankar (MDU, Rohtak) received the best athlete prize in women's category.

In the men section, MDU, Rohtak were champions and Karnataka University (Dharwar) finished runners-up. The third position went to University of Rajasthan (Jaipur). In the women's section, MGU (Kottayam) emerged winners and MDU (Rohtak) were second. Calicut University (Calicut) bagged the third position.

In the individual men's category, Deep Chandrapal (CSJMU, Kanpur) with timings of 38:01 won the first position. Ashwani Kumar (MDU, Rohtak) got silver in 38:08 minutes. Vishram Meena (Rajasthan University Jaipur) clocked 38:24 for the third position.

In the women's category, Savita Dhankar (MDU, Rohtak) timed 17:56 minutes to claim gold. Nav Joban Kaur (PU, Chandigarh) was runner-up in 18:03. Remeswari MV (Calicut University, Calicut) clocked 18:26 for the third position.

Earlier, Commissioner, Rohtak Division SP Gupta lagged off the races MDU vice-chancellor Dr RP Hooda gave away prizes to the winners.
