Man arrested in TN ration rice case
Puducherry, Oct 6 (UNI) Puducherry Food Cell Police here today arrested one person in connection with the Tamil Nadu ration rice scam.
Police said the accused was identified as Basheer (35) and owner of the godown, from where the Food Cell Police seized 175 bags of Tamil Nadu ration rice recently, had rented out the godown to one Appu and Nurudin to store rice, meant for the Tamil Nadu Government's Re one-per-kg rice scheme.
The modus operandi of the duo was to collect the rice from Neyveli, Cuddalore, Panrutti and Villuppuram, among others in Tamil Nadu, after polishing it and selling it for Rs 13 or Rs 14 per kg.
Appu and Nurudin were absconding. Efforts were on to trace the accused, police added.
