Jaya Forum resorts to 'torch demo' against poor power supply
Tiruchirapalli, Oct 6 (UNI) Members of Tiruchirapalli urban district unit of 'J Jayalalithaa Peravai' led by Tiruchirapalli district Secertary S R Manoharan staged a slogan shouting demonstration carrying torches, condemning the erratic power supply and 'power cuts' in the state.
The demonstration was also to protest against alleged maladminisitration in Tiruchirapalli city corporation, poor maintenance of drinking water supply scheme and street lights, and failure to provide basic amenities to the people.
Speaking on the occassion, former Tamil Nadu minister D Jayakumar of the opposition AIADMK strongly criticised the fragile power situation in the state and alleged inept handling of the power portfolio by the sate electricity minister Arcot N Veerasamy.
He said it was high time the ruling DMK government set right the power situation, charging otherwise the people of Tamil Nadu would teach a fitting lesson to it.
He also charged maladministration in the local bodies especially the Tiruchirapalli City Corporation.
