Indian wrestler lifts 'Indo-Pak Mission Dosti' title at Katra fest

By Staff

Jammu, Oct 6 (UNI) Indian grappler lifted the 'Indo-Pak Mission Dosti' title by defeating his counterpart from Pakistan in an interesting bout fought during a dangal competition organised as a part of the ongoing nine-day long Navratra festival at Katra base camp of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine in Reasi district here.

Wrestler Atesh from Haryana outclassed his rival Riaz from neighbouring Pakistan in a nerve wrecking bout and clinched the 4th 'Indo-Pak Mission Dosti-2008' wrestling title.

The Pakistani grapplers however, failed to excel during the day-long competition and could only manage a single win against Indian wrestlers.

''As wrestling is a rural sport, the competitions are being organised continuously for the last four years as a part of the Navaratra festival and the wrestlers from Pakistan are also being invited every year in a bid to strengthen relations between the two countries,'' Shiv Kumar Sharma, president Jammu and Kashmir Indian Style Wrestling Association told UNI.

Mr Sharma however, added that there are plans to uplift wrestling in the state while in the coming competitions, wrestlers from Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh would also be invited to participate in Navratra Festival.

Meanwhile in other bouts, Jagroop from Amritsar defeated Mohd Taj of Pakistan and Krishan from Haryana beat Shahid, Benia beat Qasim while Sonu of India drew with Pakistan's Imran.
