Emburey backs Ganguly's inclusion

By Staff

Ahmedabad, Oct 6 (UNI) Former England spinner John Emburey today backed the inclusion of Sourav Ganguly in the Indian team for the two Tests against Australia and stated that form should be the criteria for the selection of the player but not age.

''Ganguly is a world class player and has been in great form.

There should not be any second thoughts for selecting him in the Indian team,'' Emburey said.

''Age should not be the criteria for selection, certainly not for a player like Ganguly. If a senior is playing well he should be selected. There is no point in dropping him to make way for younger players,'' he added.

Emburey, who had turned down an offer to be the coach of the Indian team further added that ''Younger players should get a chance but not at the cost of in-form senior players.'' The former former England spinner is currently coaching the Indian Cricket League (ICL) team Ahmedabad Rockets. He was attending a practice session with his players on the refurbished Sardar Patel stadium here.
