Black police chief: Ethnic officers still losing out
London, Oct.6 : Britain's first black chief constable has claimed that ethnic minority officers have to work twice as hard as their white peers to gain recognition.
ccording to The Independent, Mike Fuller, Chief Constable of Kent, has revealed that over 70 per cent of black policemen and women say they have been subjected to racism at work.
The Black Police Association (BPA) says it will actively discourage potential applicants from joining a force marked by a "hostile atmosphere where racism is allowed to spread". In the BBC TV programme tonight Fuller, who joined Kent Police as chief constable four years ago having spent almost 30 years with the Metropolitan force, says there is "a real problem of minority officers in senior ranks coming through".
He is seen as a potential successor to Sir Ian Blair, who resigned as Metropolitan Police Commissioner last week.
