Bhubaneswar, Oct 5 (UNI) A Maoist has claimed that their outfit has executed the VHP leader, Swami Laxmananda Saraswati, and four of his disciples, giving a new twist to the ongoing controversy, that rocked Orissa and many others states for almost six weeks now.

The gruesome killing of the Swamiji on the night of August 23 inside his Jalaspeta Ashram in Kandhmal has triggered off an unprecedented communal violence claiming 35 lives so far.

Thousands of people were also rendered homeless as the rampaging mob went on berserk setting fire to the houses and religious places. Kandhamal witnessed bloody clashes between the communities and also clashes with police forcing the authorities to deploy central paramilitary forces and clamped curfew.

In an interview to some private TV channels at an undisclosed location, CPI (Maoist) leader Sabyasachi Panda claimed that his group had gunned down the Swamiji and four others. He also warned that some more people responsible for communal violence in the district would be killed executed.

'' There was pressure from the public at large to take action against the Swamiji,'' Panda said. He said the Maoists had earlier warned him after a communal violence rocked the district in December 2007.

The Maoist leader said after executing the death they have left two letters at the spot claming the responsibility but those letters had been confiscated by the police.

Earlier the Maoists have posted letters to some media houses claiming the responsibility of the killing of the Swamiji.

But the VHP president, Ashok Singhal, and general secretary Praveen Togadia have been twisting the fact and blaming on some Christian militants.

The Orissa government has constituted a special team headed by the Inspector General of Crime Branch to probe the killing.

The team had released sketches of two suspects in the killing but there had been no arrest so far.

When contacted State Director General of Police M M Praharaj said the disclosure of the Maoist leader would become part of the investigation of the Crime Branch.
