Tripura: Security beefed-up ahead of Durga Pooja
Agartala, Oct 5: The Tripura government has made unprecedented security arrangements in all urban areas, including the state capital, to ensure peaceful Durga Puja festivities in the state and counter terrorist attacks and as militant threats.
Police said following the serial blasts in Agartala on October 1, the state authorities made extra deployment in all the roads, markets and puja pandals while the DGP, along with senior security officials, were personally monitoring the arrangements.
''DGP Pranay Sahay has visited all the sensitive puja pandal areas last evening and spoke to the organisers regarding security issues,'' police officials said, adding that metal detectors were placed in some puja pandals while issuing fresh tips for the general public.
According to a report, 22,000 security personnel, including state police and paramilitary forces, were pressed into service, besides private security personnel and volunteers, for holding peaceful Durga Puja.
The police was undertaking extensive frisking of vehicles in all the roads and interrogating the people on suspicion and preventive detention had already been started at police station level, which would be continued till Kali Puja, police added.
