Ponting hints at a toss between Krejza and White

By Staff

Hyderabad, OC 5 (UNI) With a fragile spin attack, the Australian captain Ricky Ponting today hinted that either Jason Krejza or Cameron White will make it to the playing XI against India in the opening Test slated to begin on October 9.

Krejza was all set to get his maiden Test cap after Bryce McGain was ruled out due to an injury but a spineless performance against the Board President's XI where he was clobbered by the Indian batsmen has opened the door for White who was flown in as a replcement of McGain.

Krejza gave away 199 runs in his 31 overs of the match and the off-spinner was completely ineffective as he failed to pick any wicket in both the innings.

However, Ponting believes that Krejza's poor performance here had more to do with the nervousness of playing against a top class batting side but he added that the spinner did show signs of improvement as the match progressed.

''Jason was very nervous during the first spell of the game.

I think he improved by the end of his spell in the first innings.

He got into good rhythm and used the angles round the wicket very well.

''We need to work out how to use him best...the field placements and the way the Indians tend to play him.

''We will have to look at the wicket when we get there (Bangalore) but we think one of those two will be in the side.

White recently led Australia A to victory here in the tri-nation tournament which featured New Zealand A and India A as the other two teams.

''Cameron White offers a lot since he is allrounder. he is someone who can get a game in our side as a batsman alone. He just toured here with Australia A and did well in the one-dayers,'' Ponting added.
