Tripura: Live bomb found in Agartala

{image-Live bomb found_05102008.jpg www.oneindia.com}Agartala, Oct 5: The Tripura police on Sunday, Oct 5 defused another live bomb in the Abhaynagar area of the state capital on the eve of Durga Puja festival.

Official sources said passersby noticed a suspicious packet in a drain in the Abhaynagar area and immediately alerted the police. On receiving the information, police rushed to the spot and defused the explosive device. A mobile phone battery and splinters were also recovered from the packet. Following the serial blasts in Agartala on Oct 1, the Tripura government made unprecedented security arrangements in all urban areas, including the state capital, to ensure peaceful Durga Puja festivities in the state and counter terrorist attacks as well as militant threats.

The state authorities made extra deployment in all the roads, markets and puja pandals while DGP Pranay Sahay, along with senior security officials, was personally monitoring the arrangements. Metal detectors were placed in some puja pandals while issuing fresh tips for the general public.

According to report, 22,000 security personnel, including state police and paramilitary forces, were pressed into service, besides private security personnel and volunteers, for holding peaceful Durga Puja. The police was undertaking extensive frisking of vehicles in all the roads and interrogating the people on suspicion and preventive detention had already been started at police station level, which would be continued till Kali Puja, police added.
