Agra, Oct 5 (UNI) Samajwadi Party (SP) MP and Jan Morcha general secretary Raj Babbar, who was on a collision path with the Mulayam Singh Yadav led-SP for quite some time, today joined the Congress asserting he was associated with the party since childhood.
Announcing this at a rally in his parliamentary seat here in the presence of UPCC president Rita Bahuguna Joshi and state-in-charge Digvijay Singh, the actor-turned politician said he was originally a 'Congressman' as it was only the Congress that made several sacrifices for the country.
''I am associated with the Congress since my childhood and to make it more stronger I am joining it now,'' Mr Raj Babbar, who joined the party along with his several supporters, maintained.
''On flipping over the pages of the history, one will get to know about the sacrifices made by the Congress leaders,'' he claimed.
Naming Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi, Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru, Indira Gandhi and party's youth scion Rahul Gandhi, he said his aim would be welfare of the farmers and employment of the youth.
Lambasting Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayawati, Mr Raj Babbar said she has brought a disgrace to the constitution of the country.
He further charged her for misusing the Dalit Act. '' The Act should first of all be implied against Ms Mayawati as she has let down the dreams of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) mentor Kanshiram in many ways,'' the MP added.
The UP CM yearns to become the Prime Minister of the country, but if this happens, the country would be divided on the basis of communities, he alleged.
Mr Raj Babbar is a two time MP from Agra Lok Sabha constituency seat.
He was disillusioned from the SP after he had developed some stiff with party general secretary Amar Singh. Infact, he had levelled several corruption charges against the SP leader.
