Margao, Oct 4 (UNI) Riding on a splendid brace of goals by man of the match Nigerian Junior Eligah, Sporting club de Goa registered emphatic 3-0 win over Mohammedan Sporting in the an ONGC I-League here today.
All the goals came in the second half, through Junior Eligah in the 62nd and 77th minutes and Micky Fernandes in the 76th minute.
Sporting could have rombed home with a much bigger margin had they utilised their chances especially in the first half.
Sporting, with their second win in a row, today increased their points tally to six points. While Mohd Sporting had to remamin on one point from an equal number of outings.
As early as in the 11th minute, Junior Eligah wasted a good chance off a pass from the left flank by Harmanjot Singh.
Sporting had another chance to move ahead in the 17th minute when Joychandra Singh unleashed a shot from outside the the box which hit one of the rival defenders and rebounded towards Junior.
But his well attempted shot was smartly saved by Mohd Sporting goalkeepr Nasim Akhtar.
Sporting had another two quick chances in the 24 and 36th minuts to surge ahead. In the 24th minute, Junior Eligah from the left flank pass to Joseph Pereira who missed an easy sitter and then in the 36th minute Junior again wasted a pass from the left by Wilton Gomes.
After a barren first half, Sportring club de Goa regroped themselves well and pumped in three goals in quick sucesssion.
Sporting moved ahead in the 62nd minute through Nigerian Junior Eligah. The goal was a result of fine combined move intiated by Wilton Gomes who passed to Joseph Pereira, who in quick sucession passed the ball to Junior whose perfect header found the net to make the score 1-0. Micky Fernandes increased the lead in the 76th minute which was a gem of goal. He had a solo run with the ball and after dodging past couple of rival defenders banged the ball into the net to make 2-0. In the next minute, Sporting further consolidated their lead through Junior (his brace) who after collecting ball from the left flank, floated the ball over the rival goalkeepers head which found the net to make it 3-0.
Only noticeable move of Mohd Sporting came in the 58th minute when Adebayo Adewusis thundering goal bound header was neatly negotiated by sporting goalkeeper Felix Dsouza. It was a good move initiated by Mike Okoro.
