Security tightened in Meghalaya for Durga Puja
Shillong, Oct 4 (UNI) The Meghalaya government has tightened security to ensure peaceful celebratopn of the four-day Durga Puja festival.
Chief Secretary Ranjan Chatterjee said the capital city, where the maximum number of community puja pandals had been set up, was brought under strict security surveillance to prevent any untoward incident.
The state has been put on alert following the recent serial blasts in Tripura's capital and the state government is not taking any chances.
It requisitioned two additional companies of Central forces to assist the state administration during the festive days, he said.
The authorities kept stand-by bomb disposal squads in Shillong and in Tura in Garo hills to tackle any eventuality.
