High School Musical sets advance ticket booking record
London, Oct 4 : Disney's film 'High School Musical 3' has set a new record with its advance ticket bookings in cinemas around the UK.
The show has attracted much attention, and according to Walt Disney Pictures, tickets were booked three weeks in advance of the release of the film, with the amount crossing 500,000 pounds.
The advance ticket booking amounted to 245,205 pounds at the Odeon, UK's largest cinema chain, which revealed that the sale broke the record that had been set by 'Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire', whose ticket sales had amounted to 227,000 pounds at the same stage of booking.
The premiere for the High School Musical 3 will be taking place in UK on October 6, and stars of the show, including Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens, are set to attend the London gala.
Rupert Gavin, the chief executive of the Odeon cinema chain, has called it a "phenomenal and record-breaking start" for the movie's UK run.
"Our cinemas have been inundated with calls to pre-book tickets for what could be the year's biggest kids and teen audience movie," the BBC quoted him as saying.
"With schools breaking up for half-term just as High School Musical 3 opens, we are bracing ourselves for a huge first week run," he added.
High School Musical 3, which is the first cinematic outing in the series, is due to open across the UK on October 22.
