Ludhiana, Oct 4 (UNI) Punjab Agricultural University conducted a one day training course on "Post-harvest handling of fruits and vegetables" for farmers in its campus yesterday.
During the training, the experts of Punjab Horticultural Post harvest Technology Centre (PHPTC) highlighted the importance of post harvest handling and gave tips to farmers to minimize the post-harvest losses in horticultural crops which is to the tune of 25 to 40 per cent and advised the farmers to save the produce to possible extent.
They explained about different technologies/protocols and provided information on standards and specifications for export and domestic marketing of the produce.
During the training, the farmers were given an overview about the importance of post harvest techniques and were explained different packaging and cold storage systems. A practical demonstration on grading, waxing, packaging, post harvest handling and storage of horticulture produce were also given by the experts during the training.
