New Delhi, Oct 4 (UNI) The acute parking mess near the Delhi High Court will be a thing of the past.
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is developing 'the underground multi-level automated parking complex' to ease the trouble currently faced by advocates.
Its foundation was laid by Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and High Court Chief Justice A P Shah here late last evening.
Speaking on the occasion, Justice Shah said, ''This project is the most innovative vision of the city government. Only 10 per cent people here know about their destination, the rest are busy creating traffic hazards. So, it will help sove the problem of traffic and space to some extent near the High Court.'' Outlining the project, E Sreedharan, MD, DMRC, said, ''Parking near the HC was a big headache. Now, the situation will be changed. This unique system, costing Rs 122.69 crore, will entail a car lift and a parking space outside the front door quite like a bungalow's porch. The advocates will just need to drive up to the car lift, which will take them straight to their floor. As simple as that! And, all this will hardly take a minute. So, it will be a blessing for the lawyers, especially in the morning, when they are under tremendous court pressure,'' he added.
Mr Sreedharan said this globally acclaimed system, to be built alongside the Sher Shah Suri Marg, will not only conserve space, but also prove to be quick and efficient without any loss of green area.
The complex's area will be about 9,862 sqm. A 5-level parking below the ground has been planned as the area falls in the New Delhi/Central Vista area, where construction above ground level is restricted. At present, the surface parking will only accomodate 250-300 cars. Parking will be provided for 1,500 cars at the new underground multi-level parking.
He said 75 per cent space will be reserved for the HC judges and lawyers, while the rest for the general public. The vehicles from Central Secretariat will enter the complex through India Gate side without disturbing the flow of traffic on the Sher Shah Suri Marg.
Audio visuals will be used to guide the users. With no human intervention, it will be safe during emergency too. Merits like quick parking procedures and elimination of the use of a driver to back up and manoeuvre the car, will provide a high degree of comfort and security. The vehicles in such a system are parked on either concrete or steel surfaces, and the entire process either push button-operated or controlled by software programs which takes only about two minutes to complete.
It will also be suitable for large parking of several hundred car spaces, such as public parking with hourly rates, or private parking for large buildings. Each system is composed of two main elements: Elevator and Shuttle. This system offers a series of lateral and vertical movement of pallets to accommodate maximum cars within the available area, he added.
