New Delhi, Oct 4 (UNI) The Left parties today demanded that all cases relating to atrocities against the minorities in Orissa be referred to the CBI, as the state had failed utterly to provide safety to the members of the community.
Demanding stringent and speedy punishment to the guilty, they said ''the reports of violence against the minorities continue to pour in from Orissa where over 32 people have been killed, 2,000 houses destroyed, places of worship and prayer halls attacked and desecrated.'' The CPI(M) Polit Bureau said the autorities did not take action against the nun's gang rape accused until the media exposed it.
CPI deputy general secretary S Sudhakar Reddy condemned the UPA regime for stating that it will not use Article 355 to check anti-minorities violence in the state.
Forward Bloc national secretary G Devarajan said unabated violence in Orissa was a national shame. ''We appeal to the BJD leadership to snap ties with the BJP in the larger interests of the country.
