Mumbai, Oct 4 (UNI) A local court today acquitted five people, following lack of evidence in last year's kidnapping case at Wadala in south central Mumbai.
The session court has acquitted P K Tangchand, A Nilkanthan, V Benzamin, Anand Rasal and L Fernandes, as prosecution failed to prove the charges of kidnapping and illegal confinment, which were levelled against them.
Defence advocate Abdul Wahab Khan said that in the year 2005, complainant Durai Tandian, had borrowed loan of Rs three lakh from sister of Tangchand for his sister's marriaage.
On July 13, 2007 he had paid Rs one lakh to Tangchand's sister. On August 16 last year, he had lodged complaint that these people had kidnapped and confined him in a room for few days and threatened him. On the basis of complaint these people were arrested by police.
During the trial, not a single witness supported the prosecution's case and all of them were acquitted from all charges, he added.
