Congress likely to come out with first list by mid October
New Delhi, Oct 4 (UNI) The Central Election Committee (CEC) of the Congress is likely to meet on October 15 or 16 to finalise the first list of candidates for the forthcoming state assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Delhi, Chhattisgarh, Mizoram and Jammu and Kashmir.
Separate scrutiny committees for each election going state have been constituted by Party President Sonia Gandhi. These committes already hold a few rounds of sitting.
The Scrutiny Committee for Madhya Pradesh, headed by AICC General Secretary Veerappa Moily, held its second meeting today.
Mr Moily told UNI here that the committee discussed the possibility of single names and sitting MLAs.
He said the next meeting of the committee would be held for two days from October 10.
Mr Moily said the committee would complete its job before the meeting of the CEC which is likely on October 15 or 16.
AICC sources said the Scrutiny committee for Rajasthan, headed by Mr Digvijay Singh, and that for Chhattisgarh, headed by Mr P J Kurian, have almost completed their jobs.
Sources said the candidates of the Congress for the assembly elections and the Lok Sabha election, which is likely to be held early next year, would be announced well in advance in keeping with the recommendations of the A K Antony Committee.
