Hyderabad, Oct 4 (UNI) Off-spinner Piyush Chawla claimed five wickets as Board President's XI dismissed Australia for 314 to grab a first innings lead of 141 runs at tea on the third day of the four-day match here today.
The hosts were seven for no loss at the break with Wasim Jaffer (1) and Aakash Chopra (6) at the crease.
A heroic effort from Micheal Hussey (126 not out) failed to rescue the Aussies who failed to build up significant partnerships.
The world champions were reeling at 218 for the loss of nine wickets before Hussey put up a last wicket partnership of 96 runs along with Stuart Clark (44).
Australia suffered a mini collapse early in the day when they lost five wickets in a space of 11 overs and were in trouble with the score reading 218 for nine.
Piyush Chawla was the pick of the Board's XI bowlers. Pragyan Ojha, who claimed three wickets, also caught the eye.
Their accurate bowling caused alarm in the Aussie camp as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals.
