Abhinav, Vijendra and Sushil honoured by K'taka Govt

Mysore, Oct 4 (UNI) The trio -- Abhinav Bindra, Vijendra Singh and Sushil-- who made India's flag fly high at the Beijing Olympics were today honoured by the Karnataka Government at a glittering function held in front of the illuminated Mysore Palace today.

District Incharge Minister Shoba Karandlaje and Sports Minister Goolihatti Shekar honoured Abhinav and Vijendra by presenting shawl, Mysore peta and cheques for Rs 10 lakh and Rs five lakh respectively.

However, Sushil Kumar could not attend the function due to ill health. His brother Sandeep received the honours and thanked the people and the State Government for bestowing honour and presenting a purse of Rs five lakh.

Replying to felicitations, Abhinav Bindra, who made the country proud by winning the first-ever individual gold medal in the Olympics said '' I am very happy to be in the City of Palaces, particularly during Dasara festivities and I will visit the City again and again.'' Vijendra Singh, who bagged bronze medal in boxing at the Beijing games thanked the State Government for the honours bestowed on him.

He said he was very happy to be present during the Dasara festival.
