Abhinav and Vijendra and Sushil honoured by Karnataka Government
Mysore, Oct 4 (UNI) The trio who made India's flag fly high at the Beijing Olympics--Abhinav Bindra, Vijendra Singh and Sushil Kumar were today honoured by the Karnataka Government at a glittering function held in front of illuminated Mysore Palace today.
However, due to ill health Sushil could not attend the function and his brother Sandeep received the honours and thanked the State government for Rs Five lakhs cash and honour and the people of Karnataka.
District Incharge Minister Shoba Karandlaje and Sports Minister Goolihatti Shekar honoured Abhinav and Vijendra by presenting cheques for Rs 10 lakh and Rs Five lakh respectively with shawl and Mysore peta.
Replying to the honour, the India's first ever gold medal winner in the Olympics Ahibnav said that " I am very happy to be in the City of Palaces, particularly during Dasara festivities and I am eager to visit the City again and again." Vijendra Singh, thanking the State Government for the honours bestowed on him, said that he was very happy to be present during the Dasara Festival.
