Bangalore, Oct 3 (UNI) India coach Gary Kirsten today asserted that the home team will make it tough for the Australians in the upcoming four-Test series and said over the years, his team has become strong and competitive to challenge any side and in the world.
Speaking to mediapersons after the conclusion of the five-day camp in preparation for the series, Kirsten said ''Indian team has become strong and is keenly looking forward to the series against Australia.'' India and Australia will take on each other on October 9 in Bangalore.
''We know Australia have come well prepared but Indian team has become strong and there is good cricket in store when the series begins.
''India has played quite well against the top teams of the world and is in good form. Yes, we are looking forward to fight against the Australians,'' he added.
Kirsten further noted that the two teams have played some competitive cricket in the last 20 Tests and India has performed quite well in all those matches.
He added that India has identified a few flaws in the Australians' game which will be exploited once the series gets underway.
''Focus was on team's performance as well as individuals. Team effort is more important than depending on a couple of players and a lot of attention was given on this during the camp. I am happy with the team's preparation and the way the boys have performed,'' the former South African opener added.
Replying to a question, he said ''It is going to be a competitive series since two titans will fight it out for one prestigious trophy.'' However, the coach refrained from disclosing India's playing combination for the opening Test. He said the final XI will only be picked depending on the pitch and conditions.
