Shillong, Oct 3 (UNI) Elaborate security arrangements have been made to ensure smooth Durga puja celebration across Meghalaya.
The state government had requisitioned two additional companies of paramilitary force for enhancing security, even as fire tenders of the Indian Air Force and Indian Army had been put in stand by to tackle any untoward incident.
The state police had also been strengthened by additional sector officers, and magistrates been asked to help police to maintain law and order during the celebration.
The government had also instructed all puja authorities to ensure that the pandals be vacated by 10 PM on all five days.
'' Police want to ensure a joyous and peaceful puja celebration, '' Chief Secretary Ranjan Chatterjee told reporters.
He said fire tenders, bomb disposal squads and other emergency facilities were being kept in readiness to face any eventuality.
Mr Chatterjee said extra security mechanisms were being taken in the wake of the serial bomb blasts, which ripped through different parts of the country this year.
'' We are cautious and don't want to take any risk, '' the Chief Secretary stated.
Meanwhile, the BSF was also on high alert along the Indo-Bangla border at the Meghalaya-Assam sector with the border guards assuring that there would be ''no penetration'' from across the border in this sector.
'' Maximum deployment of troops have been placed along the Assam and Meghalaya sector bordering Bangladesh, '' Inspector General of Border Security Force (Assam-Meghalaya frontier) PK Mishra said.
