Chandigarh, Oct 3 (UNI) Paddy procurement has picked up in Punjab with 7.71 lakh tonnes of paddy has been procured till yesterday.
As per official statistics, PUNGRAIN has procured 1,73,609 tonnes of paddy, which is 25.7 per cent of the total procurement, MARKFED procured 1,76,657 tonnes of paddy, which is 26.2 per cent, PUNSUP procured 1,52,848 tonnes of paddy (22.7 per cent), Punjab State Warehousing Corporation procured 87,407 tonnes of paddy (13%) whereas 75,699 tonnes of paddy (11.2 per cent) procured by Punjab Agro.
The Central Government Agency FCI has procured only 8,547 tonnes of paddy, which is just 1.3 per cent of the total procuremnet, while the private millers purchased 96,332 tonnes of paddy (12.5 per cent).
The 'mandis' in Amritsar division recorded 3,10,458 tonnes of paddy, with Tarn Taran recording maximum paddy on the 4th day to the tune of 1,07,370 tonnes.
The mandis of Ferozepur division recorded 4,28,936 tonnes of paddy with maximum of 1,73,915 tonnes of paddy being recorded by Ferozepur district.
The Punjab Food Supply had setup 1622 procurement centres throughout the state.
