Chandigarh, Oct 3 (UNI) Punjab Languages and Education Minister Upinderjit Kaur today hailed the decision of Ashwani Kumar Minna, Chief Editor, Punjab Kesari, New Delhi edition for promoting the cause of Punjabi language in Haryana.
She made this statement while commenting on Mr Minna's views asking the Congress-led Haryana Government to give due status and recognition to Punjabi.
Dr Kaur said the state government had ignored Punjabi which is spoken by half the population of Haryana. She reminded the government of the neighbouring state that Haryana was carved out of Punjab.
The Minister pointed out that the Punjab Government had already enacted a legislation for compulsory use of Punjabi language in all the government offices and subordinate courts and in all schools from class one to 10th. She said though Haryana had also passed a resolution in the Vidhan Sabha for giving Punjabi the second language status in the state but the same was only on paper.
Dr Kaur, appreciated the efforts of all newspapers of Punjab and of people like Mr Minna who were keen to uplift the Punjabi language.
