Mumbai, Oct 3 (UNI) Mahindra United, who were beaten in their first round match by Churchill Brothers, would be looking for nothing less than a win when they take on debutants Chirag United, Kolkata in the second round the ONGC I-League match at the Cooperage ground here tomorrow.
Speaking to mediapersons after the practice session, Mahindra United coach Derek Pereira said his team had learnt from its blemishes in the opening match that they lost to Churchill Brothers and was looking forward to a positive performance from his formidable side.
''We have to avoid the mistakes we made against Churchill.
We have to put behind that early setback and look forward in a positive manner,'' reasoned Pereira during Mahindra United's practice session at the Mahindra ground, Kandivali today, on the eve of their match against Chirag, who lost their opening round to East Bengal 1-3.
''Our midfield did not combine as well as it used to in past matches and we conceded those two late goals against Churchill when we made substitutions and lost shape,'' he explained.
Pereira said he did not know much about Chirag's style but emphasised that Mahindra United had to be well prepared.
''Chirag will be playing with three foreigners, so we have to take everything into consideration and concentrate on our game plan,'' he said.
With the skies overcast today, Pereira said his team was prepared to play in any conditions.
''The Cooperage ground is a bit hard but with just a little rain, it should be good to play on. But we cannot look for excuses. We have to play in any conditions,'' added Pereira.
With no injury worries, captain Ajayan said his team had to ignore the disappointment of losing their first match and hope for improvement in future.
''We have noted the mistakes we made against Churchill and will try to avoid repeating them,'' said Ajayan, adding that ''We have to plan our strategies according to every opposition.
We cannot underestimate Chirag or any of the remaining teams in the league.'' Chirag United, the new comers to the I-League first division, meanwhile, will be looking to show that they can also play at this level and after a defeat to East Bengal will be all the more eager to show off their skills.
In players like Basudev Mondal, Dulal Biswas, Sasty Duley, Sanjiv Maria (all ex-international) they have the talent to do well.
Some others like Sankar Oraon, Lal Malswamma Hmar, Gautam Debnath, Kingshuk Debnath, Dhanrajan R, Soumik Chakraborty are a talented bunch possesing a lot of talent for local giants Mahindra United to take them seriously and not get complacent.
