Jammu, Oct 3 (UNI) Border Security Force troops shot dead an intruder last night as they foiled an infiltration bid from Indo-Pak international border (IB) along R S Pura sector here in Jammu and Kashmir, official sources today said.
Exchange of fire started after troops of the 135 BSF battalion challenged three to five people moving under suspicious circumstances, near a border outpost in Kunara Tana Khurd village along the IB around 1930 hrs yesterday.
''Our jawans came under heavy fire when they challenged the suspected intruders. The fire was equally retaliated in which one of the intruders was killed while the rest fled back,'' a BSF officer told UNI.
Identity of the deceased intruder, from whom a one pack of Pakistan-made cigarettes and eatables were recovered, was yet to be ascertained, he said.
All the police stations have been put on alert in Jammu and out skirting areas, while night patrolling on the RS Pura to Jammu road has been intensified.
