Hyderabad, TN score big wins, Andhra gains lead over Karnataka

Chennai, Oct 3 (UNI) Hosts Tamil Nadu and Hyderabad registered big wins with a day to spare and collected a bonus point each on the third day of the four-day south zone under-22 Cricket Tournament for the P Ramachandra Rao Trophy here today.

While Tamil Nadu thrashed a lowly Goa by an innings and 131 runs, Hyderabad walloped Kerala by ten wickets.

Both Tamil Nadu and Hyderabad gained six points, including a bonus point.

Goa resuming at 103 for seven, replying to Tamil Nadu's 406, were bowled out for 104, with Abhinav Mukund picking all the three wickets. His today's analysis read 1.5-1-1-3.

Faced with a huge first innings deficit of 302 runs, Goa fared marginally better, but were bowled out for 171 in their second essay. Left hander Ankit Desai ploughed a lone furrow scoring 71 (143 balls, 9x4, 2x6) as off spinners M Prabhu (five for 57) and R Ashwin (2 for 56) struck in tandem to bowl Tamil Nadu to a big win.

In another match, Kerala resuming their second innings at 97 for five, lost their remaining five wickets, by adding 50 runs. They were bowled out for 147.

Hyderabad knocked off the requisite target of nine runs in just 1.5 overs to win by ten wickets.

In another match, Andhra, helped by a superb century by P Sumanth (146, 351 balls, 14x4, 1x6) gained a ten run first innings lead against Karnataka's 372.

Sumanth, who came in at no three, was the last man out.

Karnataka reached 169 for two in their second essay when stumps were drawn.

Brief Scores: Kerala 124 and 147 all out in 57 overs (Rohan Prem 32 not out, Lalit Mohan 3 for 46, Vishal Sharma 2 for 35, Bharat Kumar 2 for 13) lost to Hyderabad 263 and nine for no loss in 1.5 overs.

Tamil Nadu 406 bt Goa 104 all out in 50.5 overs and 171 all out in 57.4 overs.

Karnataka 372 and 169 for two in 28.4 overs (D.Murari 61 batting, Ganesh Satish 82) vs Andhra 382 all out in 116.1 overs (P Sumanth 146, K P Appanna 3 for 91, Darshan 3 for 54).
