Development works underway:K N Nehru
Tiruchirapalli, Oct 3(UNI) The Tamil Nadu government will take up slum improvement works to the tune of Rs 19.5 crore in Tiruchirapalli Corporation areas, according to State Transport Minister K N Nehru.
Handing over the fire-proof houses to the 55 victims, constructed by the city-based non-governmental organisation SEVAI, at Antokondan area today, he said efforts were on to distribute loans and funds to the women self-help groups, which have been left out so far.
Earlier, inaugurating the sale of spices and condiments through fair price shops at Manapparai near here, Mr Nehru said that 1.96 crore card holders in Tamil Nadu were getting the essential commodities through fair-price shops at a subsidized rate.
The government has passed an order to upgrade the government hospital into a District Headquarters hospital, and necessary civil works for the proposed upgradation will commence shortly, he added.
Referring to the power crisis in the state, he said the government is making an all-out effort to overcome the existing short-supply of electricity.
District Collector T Soundiah, pointed out that that there were 7.68 lakh card holders in Tiruchirapalli who would be benefitted under this scheme.
