Autorickshaw, taximen to stage dharna on Oct 16
Mumbai, Oct 3 (UNI) Over three lakh autorickshaw and taximen will stage a 'dharna' on October 16 at Azad Maidan to press for their pending demands.
Autorickshaw-Taximen's Union President Sharad Rao told reporters here today that in the special general body meeting of the union held on September 29, they had unanimously decided to stage a day-long 'dharna' on October 16 to press for their demands.
Their demands include withdrawal of proposal of abolition of taxis of 25 years and above and non-provision of any parking facilities and stands to fleet taxis as they are supposed to operate by telephone calls, electronic meters be kept optional, revision of fare for autos and taxis from January one, every year, exemption for taxi drivers and owners from professional, excise, sales tax and octroi and others, he added.
