Hyderabad, Oct 2 (UNI) Promising young batsman Rohit played sensibly to score a half century and had taken the Board President's XI to 196 for four against Australia on the first day of the four-day match at Rajiv Stadium here today.

At tea, Sharma was batting on 75 and giving him company was Virat Kohli on 33.

The loss of captain Yuvraj Singh did not deter Sharma's confidence and played fluently to keep the australian bowlers at bay.

Sharma reached his 50 with a six at long on off Stuart Clark before which he had hit eight fours as well.

Earlier, Yuvraj failed to impress the crowd and analysts as he tried to cut the ball which bounced more than what the batsman expected and was caught by Hussey at gully.

Sharma was lucky enough to be dropped by Brett Lee on his follow through when he was on 63. He, along with Virat Kohli, hit two sixes off Krejza in one over that yielded 15 runs.

Earlier, Board President's XI chose to bat first after winning the toss and were in a spot of bother at lunch with the score reading 80 for three.

Opening pair of Wasim Jaffer and Akash Chopra added 41 runs before the former was caught at fine leg off Stuart Clark's bowling.

Australian pace bowlers created flutters as President's XI lost three quick wickets within 18 runs. Johnson trapped Chopra (25) and Badrinath was adjudged leg before wicket off Siddle for just two.
