Paes-Dlouhy advance into Japan Open quarters

By Staff

Tokyo, Oct 2 (UNI) Top seed Leander Paes and Lukas Dlouhy, in their quest to win two consecutive titles, brushed aside the Spanish pair of Guillermo Garcia-Lopez and Ivan Navarro in straight sets to advance into the quarter-finals of the 869,000 dollar Japan Open here today.

Paes and Dlouhy, who won the Thailand Open last week, overpowered the unseeded Spanish duo 6-4, 7-5 in an hour and 13 minutes.

The Indo-Czech pair had an easy first set but were stretched by their rivals in the second set which they eventually won.

However, it was a bad day for Rohan Bopanna and his American partner Eric Butorac who fought hard against second-seeded pair of Simon Aspelin and Julian Knowle but could not succeed to stay alive in the tournament.

The Indo-US pair lost a hard fought battle 7-6(4), 6-7(4), 4-10 to bow out of the tournament.
