Test call is a dream come true for Badrinath

By Staff

Hyderabad, Oct 1 (UNI) Overjoyed after being selected in the Test squad, Tamil Nadu batsman Subramanium Badrinath today said making his debut in the longer version of the game against Australia was a dream come true for him.

Talking to mediapersons after a day long net session here on the eve of the Board President XI's warm-up match against Australia, Badrinath said,''It has been a dream for me and if I make my Test debut against Australia, the world's number one team, it just could not get better.'' ''All my life, I wanted to play for India in a Test match and also compete against Australia. Today, both these dreams were fulfilled,'' an elated Badrinath added.

The right handed batsman also added that he is ready to bat at any position in an important four-day match what whould be the tour opener for the Aussies.

''Any position, any number,'' he stated.

However, he asserted that the four day practise match will give a fair idea about the strengths and weaknesses of the world champions.

''The practise match against Australia is now becomes even more important for me, because it allows me play against the same players whom I might face again in the Test series,'' he said.

Replying to a question that newcomers will be under immense pressure as the 'Fab Four' of the Indian team are on the threshold of retirement, Badrinath admitted that expectations from the new players would be high.

''It will be very tough for the new comers to fill the big boots of great players, but all of them had to start from scratch, and it will be no different for me,'' he said.
