Tallest statue of Shivaji to be installed at CYG venue

Pune, Oct 1 (UNI) The tallest statue of Maratha ruler Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj will be unveiled at the venue of the 2008 Commonwealth Youth Games (CYG) here on October four.

The statue will be formally inaugurated by Chhatrapati Udyan Bhosale of Satara and Kolhapur's Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj on the same day.

Addressing a media conference here today, Indian Olympic Association (IOA), President and organising committee chairman of the 2008 CYG, Suresh Kalmadi said though the sports complex is named after the Maratha ruler Chhatrapati Shivaji, however it did not have any appropriate statue.

In this regard, noted sculpture of Delhi Ram Sutar and his son Anil Sutar were assigned to make a well crafted statue.

They sculpted a 22 feet bronze statue, weighing four and half tons within 150 days.
