Should Bangla Hindus be flushed out from India?
Shillong, Oct 1: The Opposition Congress party in Meghalaya today blamed the erstwhile All Party Hill Leaders' Conference (APHLC) government for the influx of Hindus immigrants from East Pakistan (Bangladesh).
The Congress statement came after BJP's Prime Ministerial candidate Lal Krishna Advani charged the Congress for the influx of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants.
"Most of the immigrants from erstwhile Pakistan (now Bangladesh) were mostly Hindus, who have been rehabilitated in the state, should these unfortunate people be flushed out," Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee Chief Friday Lyngdoh asked.
Pleading to the minorities not to believe Mr Advani's security assurance at face value, Mr Lyngdoh said the cause of terrorism in the country was mainly due to BJP's policy to annihilate the minorities groups.
"The demolition of Babri Masjid and burning of Churches and persecution of Christians in Orissa, Karnataka and Chennai have become so because of the instigation of BJP leaders like Mr Advani,'' he said.
The former Urban Minister also appealed to the people of Meghalaya not to fall to the trap of Mr Advani's assurance that the minority was safe under BJP rule.
The Congress leader, however, claimed that it was only the Congress party that can afford to protect and safeguard the interest of the minority communities.
