Punjab Police and BSF cagers to fight for title

Chandigarh, Oct 1 (UNI) Border Security Force defeated Rest of Punjab men in a closely contested match by 66-56 points in the 18th Punjab Annual Basketball League for men and women being played at village Gure in Ludhiana district last night.

In the first quarter itself the securitymen took a lead of 15 points (27-12). In the second and third quarters, Rest of Punjab, playing possession attack and at times changing to fast counter attack, scored equally to BSF and were trailing by only five points at the end of third quarter (42-47).

With this victory BSF have gained six points for winning all three matches they have played so far and were at par with Punjab Police who have also scored three wins so far. The match between Punjab Police and BSF will decide the league champions.

In another match, which was to decide the third position between two Railway teams RCF, Kapurthala and DLW, Patiala, RCF won by 77-33 points. With this win RCF were having six points for two wins and two defeats and finished third.

Rest of Punjab with one win and three losses fetched five points and finished fourth. DLW Patiala, having lost all the four matches they played, got four points and were fifth.

In the women's section, Jalandhar were lucky to win over Kapurthala by 55-53. Kapurthla women gave very tough fight to Jalandhar and were unlucky to lose this match.

With this win Jalandhar had two wins for two matches played and got four points and they will play against Ludhiana who have also secured four points. Kapurthala, with one win against Amritsar and two losses, got four points and finished third. Amritsar, with all three defeats, got three points and finshed fifth.
