Ocean sailing expedition- Aqua-08 to be flagged off on Oct 3

Panaji, Oct 1 (UNI) The ten day Ocean sailing expedition, Aqua-08 organised by Goa Naval NCC Unit, will be held from October three to 12.

The expedition will be flagged off on October 3 from Dona Paula.

The Commanding officer of Goa NCC, Panaji, Commander Utpal Datta, who is also the officer-incharge of the expedition, told mediapersons here today that Naval NCC cadets of Goa would sail in Whaler boats for 10 days to cover a distance of over 468 kms at sea between Dona Paula, Betul and Terekhol and back till October 12.

He said 24 Naval NCC Cadets have been selected from various educational institutes of Goa and trained for the challengeing adventure activity. 15 cadets compirsing of 10 senior division (boys), and 5 senior Wing( girls) have been shortlisted for main expedition, while 9 cadets have been placed in reserve who would join up at different phases to relieve the main team.

Commander Dutta said the main aim of the expedition is to familiarize the cadets with the skills of whaler sailing and instill coinfidence in the trainees to helm a sailing vessel at sea.

In case of emergency, the Search&Rescue coverages at sea would be provided by the headquarters, Goa Naval Area and INS Hansa.
