Chennai, Oct 1 (UNI) Union Health Minister Ambumani Ramadoss today said he alongwith some of his like-minded colleagues planned to meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and seek a solution in doing away with a provision in law penalising gay sex.

Speaking to reporters here, Dr Ramadoss said he was expecting a more progressive view from the Union Home Ministry in removing Sec 377 of IPC which penalised gay sex.

The Minister said he and 'like-minded' Union Ministers like Mr Oscar Fernandes would be taking up the issue with the Prime Minister.

He also clarified his Ministry was raising the issue only on health grounds.

About 66 per cent HIV/AIDS affected people were Men Having Sex with Men (MSM). This was increasing.

According to Sec 377 of the Indian Penal Code, a doctor treating such a person can be jailed as it is an offence and so can be the social worker.

The Minister said he did not want HIV/AIDS situation to go out of control and called for more ''progressive plans'' from the country on the issue.
