Mariyam Bibi re-elected Chairperson of South Andaman Zilla Parishad
Port Blair, Oct. 01 (UNI) Ms V K Mariyam Bibi was today re-elected the Chairperson of South Andaman Zilla Parishad for the fourth term.
The Congress candidate has been elected unopposed, as Zilla Parishad members of opposition parties did not attend the election meeting.
South Andaman Zilla Parishad have total 15 Zilla Parishad member seats out of which only nine Congress Members attended today's meeting and elected Ms Mariyam Bibi as Chairperson for the second consecutive term.
During the special meeting convened by Deputy Commissioner of South Andaman S N Jha, Mr Raja Ram has been elected as Vice-Chairman of the South Andaman Zilla Parishad.
The re-elected Chairperson expressed her gratitude to all Zilla Parishad members present during the meeting for again electing her as Chairman of the Zilla Parishad.
'' My priority would be construction and maintenance of village roads, as demanded by villages of far-flung villagers of this territory,'' Ms V K Mariyam Bibi told UNI soon after the election.
Meanwhile election for the post of Chairperson of North and Middle Andaman Zilla Parishad was also held today at Mayabunder village of North Andaman, where BJP candidate Ms Kiran Tigga has been elected as Chairperson.
