Bhubaneswar, Oct: Director Intelligence Manmohan Praharaj, an IPS officer of 1976 batch, on Tuesday, Sep 30 took over as the new Director General of Police in Orissa succeeding Gopal Chandra Nanda.
Mr Praharaj had served as Superintendent of Police in Cuttack during 1980-1982 and was promoted to the Deputy Inspector General of Police in 1993.
He served the intelligence wing of the Orissa police for 17 long years and was promoted to Additional Director General of Police in 2003 and was holding the Director Intelligence post since then.
Immediately assuming the office at Cuttack as Mr Nanda retired, Mr Praharaj told mediapersons that the Kandhmal violence would not be tolerated any longer but maintained that the police would be proactive while dealing with the situation.
The new DGP said thee naxal issue would be his top priority and all efforts would be made to strengthen the communication system of the police, upgradation of the police infrastructure with emphasis on the recruitment of all the vacancies in the police department.
