Lalu assures Badal of clearing all railway proposals
Chandigarh, Oct 1 (UNI) The Ministry of Railways today in principle gave its clearance to the Punjab Government for the construction of new railway line between Patti and Mallanwalan.
Clearance was also given to the rail kine from Rama Mandi to Maur in Bhatinda district besides construction of approach road for new rail road bridge at Makhu on Jalandhar-Ferozepore railway section through railway land and shifting of narrow gauge rail line station from Pathankot to Chakki(Mammun).
An assurance to this effect was given by Railway Minister Lalu Yadav to the Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal when the latter called on him in his office at Rail Bhawan in Delhi today.
Mr Yadav assured the Chief Minister that all these projects would be implemented shortly subject to technical approval by the Railway Board and said he would personally intervene in the matter to seek its early clearance. He also assured Mr Badal that the pending issues relating to raising of submerged railway bridges/culverts in the districts of Ferozepur, Muktsar, Bathinda and Faridkot in the South-Western region of the State and the construction of a span over the railway tracks of an ROB at Domoria near Railway Station, Jalandhar by Indian Railways in place of local Municipal Corporation would be soon looked into sympathetically.
Taking part in the deliberations, Mr Badal urged the Union Minister to extend the facility of placing two additional racks at Attari so that the goods being imported from Pakistan could be off loaded in time.
The Chief Minister also impressed upon Mr Yadav to allow the Punjab Sewerage Board to lay sewerage under the railway track bridge No 43 on Rajpura-Bhatinda line. The State Government had already conveyed its consent to the Ministry of Railways to deposit Rs 4.75 crore for laying 12 mm diameter of sewer under the railway track.
The Chief Minister was accompanied by his Special Principal Secretary K J S Cheema and Principal Resident Commissioner, Mrs Anjuly Chib Duggal.
