Govt starts Asha Kiran centres to counsel dropouts
Bangalore, Oct 1: Government has set up 567 'Asha Kiran' centres under 'Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan' from this academic year for rehabilitating potential school dropouts in the state.
Education Commissioner Kumar Naik told reporters here on Wednesday, Oct 1 that the state has more than 33,000 dropouts. Of this, about 18,000 children have been rehabilitated in these centres set up in various parts of the state to provide education to them.
Under the project, Rs 10,000 would be spent on every child a year to provide all basic needs to them besides education, he said.
Each centre will house about 50 primary students, he added.
