Health insurance cover for Punjab Cooperative Society members

Chandigarh, Oct 1 (UNI) On the eve of Gandhi Jayanti, the Punjab Government today launched an ambitious health insurance scheme that will cover all employees and members of Cooperatives Institutions and Societies.

The scheme, Bhai Ghanhya Sehat Sewa Scheme will also cover the dependents of Cooperative Societies and Institutions. The scheme is an ernest endeavour to provide quality health care to the employees, members and their dependants, a majority of whom are linked with the farm sector.

" This scheme aims to provide viable means of improving access to quality health services for the rural community at affordable cost", Cooperatives Minister Capt Kawaljit Singh said while launching this noble intiative here.

Addressing mediapersons, Capt Singh said that ths scheme shall provide coverage for meeting the medical expenses of indoor hospitalisation for a period of more than 24 hours and other treatment of the members registered under the scheme upto an expenditure of Rs two lakh per person per year on family floater basis in the listed hospitals. Around 172 hospitals and medical instiutions have been registered under the scheme where a member can get medical treatment without having to shell out a penny from his pocket at the time of treatment, he added.

Capt Singh said that so far 1,83,916 employees and members have registered for the medical insurance scheme. If the dependents are taken into account, the registeration number is 6,45,913, he said and added that the registeration period could be extended for another month as there has been a demand for this.
